Add fixed and percent cost cards to capture additional event expenses
Summary
FlowerBuddy allows you to include more general costs in your event by using fixed and percent-based cost cards. Fixed cost cards are ideal for single-price items like rentals, while percent-based cards are useful for applying a percentage to the event’s subtotal (like labor or service fees). This guide covers how both card types work, how to apply markup, and how they interact with event totals and pricing formulas.
Instructions
Fixed Cost Cards:
Click Add Item and select Fixed Cost.
The card icon will display an F to indicate it’s a fixed cost type.
Enter your cost in the Cost field (e.g., van rental = $150).
Optionally apply a markup percentage (e.g., 30%) to calculate the client charge.
The total price charged to the client will be calculated and shown.
Percent-Based Cost Cards:
Click Add Item and select Percent-Based Cost.
Expand the card and enter the Cost Percentage (e.g., 10%).
Before entering a percentage, hover over the top Price field to view the current pre-tax subtotal.
The cost will be calculated as a percentage of the subtotal of all non-percent cards in the event.
Give the card a name (e.g., "Labor").
Understanding markup on percent-based cards:
Markup is calculated based on the cost field of the percent-based card.
For example, a 10% markup on a $464.50 cost would add $46.45 to the price.
This ensures you are not just covering cost, but making a profit as well.
Other pricing interactions:
If markup is zero but the price increases, check if credit card fees or FlowerBuddy fees are enabled in your pricing formula.
Percent-based cards automatically update as other cards are added to the event, keeping calculations in sync.
