# Workspace roles

A workspace role is a reusable set of access choices for members. It can limit page access, event and retail-plan access, recipe-item visibility, item creation, pricing changes, and cost and profit access.

**Full-Access** is the default role for members who do not have a custom role. It is read-only in the role list because it represents the normal workspace access, not a role you edit. Restrictions begin when you assign a custom role.

Custom roles are explicit restrictions. When a page does not appear as a restriction in a custom role, the member keeps access to that page. Use a custom role when a person needs a consistent, narrower set of permissions than **Full-Access**.

The role list shows **Full-Access** separately from editable custom roles.
