# Set a Workflow Status when work is complete

Use the task completion setting when finishing a task or task group should add a meaningful sub-status to its event. A **Workflow Status** is a customizable event sub-status, such as "Proposal: design" or "Booked: awaiting deposit." It adds detail alongside the event's main status.

## Choose a completion Workflow Status

On the task or task group, open the completion Workflow Status selector labeled **On completion, set workflow status to**. Choose one of the Workflow Statuses available in the workspace, or choose no status when completion should not update the event's sub-status.

The circled control opens the completion setting. Choose a status from this menu to use when the task is completed, rather than changing the event's status immediately.

The setting is available only when you can edit the event. It is not available for Retail Plans, and an archived Workflow Status cannot be selected as a new completion target.

## Effect of completing work

When the configured task becomes **Complete**, FlowerBuddy can assign the selected Workflow Status to the event. When a configured task group becomes **Complete**, the group can assign its selected Workflow Status. The event's main status remains separate, so completing work does not automatically change **Inquiry**, **Proposal**, or **Booked**.

For example, completing a design review could assign "Proposal: ready to send" if that custom Workflow Status exists in the workspace. The label signals the event's progress; it does not confirm a payment, contract signature, or other business result by itself.

## Keep statuses separate

A task's status shows whether its work is **To Do**, **In Progress**, or **Complete**. The event's main status is **Inquiry**, **Proposal**, **Booked**, or another event stage or outcome. **Workflow Status** adds your own detail to that event status. The completion setting described here changes only the chosen Workflow Status, not the main event status.
