# Change a task status

Change a task status to show whether its work is waiting, underway, or finished. The status belongs to the task. It is separate from the event's main status and from an event's optional **Workflow Status**.

## Task status choices

Use **To Do** when the task has not started, **In Progress** when work has started, and **Complete** when the task is finished. Select the task's status icon on a card or List row, then choose the matching status from the menu. The selected status moves the task to the matching Board lane and updates its List row.

The status menu presents the three task states described above. The screenshot shows that menu open on a task card, which is the control to use when you need to change a status without moving the card between Board lanes.

On the Board, moving a task between the **To Do**, **In Progress**, and **Complete** lanes changes the same status value. It does not create a copy of the task.

## Completing a task

The task can show its completion date. If the task has a completion dependency for another task, that completion can provide the other task's date anchor. If the task has an **On completion, set workflow status to** setting, completing it can assign that event **Workflow Status**.

Completing a task does not automatically record a payment or change the event's main status from **Inquiry**, **Proposal**, or **Booked**.

## Reopening a task in a completed group

If a completed task belongs to a completed group, choosing **To Do** or **In Progress** opens a **Reopen Task** dialog. You can keep the group complete, which makes the unfinished task no longer required, or reopen the group with the status FlowerBuddy offers.

Choose the option that matches whether the group itself is still complete. The task's status and the group's status are related, but they remain separate records.
