# Manage retail plan tasks

Open a retail plan's **Tasks** tab to add and review work without leaving the plan. The plan must be unlocked and you need permission to edit it before you can add or change tasks. Select **Add Task** to create a task in the current plan, then enter a clear name, due date, assignee, and status that matches the task.

Use **Add Group** when several tasks belong to one plan activity, such as a display review. Groups make related work easier to scan while each task keeps its own status and due-date rule. **Show unresolved** helps narrow the board to work that still needs attention.

When the plan is locked, or when you do not have plan edit permission, task-change controls are unavailable. Unlocking a plan does not give a member edit permission, and having permission does not bypass the plan lock.

For shared details that apply here, see [Create a task](/reference/tasks/create-a-task.md), [Assign a task](/reference/tasks/assign-a-task.md), [Set a task due date and completion dependency](/reference/tasks/set-task-due-date.md), and [Change a task status](/reference/tasks/change-task-status.md). Those instructions apply to the task itself. Start from the retail plan tab when the work belongs to this plan.

## Add and assign work

After selecting **Add Task**, replace the new-task name with an action that someone can complete. "Check ranunculus quantity" is more useful than "Flowers" because it tells the assignee what to review. Set the due date in relation to the work, such as the day before a vendor order is prepared, and choose an assignee where applicable.

Use **To Do**, **In Progress**, and **Complete** to show the task's progress. A task status is not a plan status and does not change the plan's products, dates, or build information. When a task depends on another task or group, use the shared due-date instructions to make that relationship explicit.

## Maintain useful groups

Create a group for a bounded piece of work, such as "Counter display review." Add the individual child tasks that make that review complete. The group gives the plan a compact progress view, while the child tasks preserve the specific owner and due date for each action.
