# Lock or unlock a retail plan

Lock a retail plan when its product setup should not change during a production review. The lock prevents routine edits to the plan and its products until an authorized person unlocks it.

Use the lock control in the plan summary to lock or unlock the plan. Before locking, review product quantities, ingredients, labor, selling prices, and the date range. After unlocking, make the required correction and lock the plan again when the review is complete.

A lock is an editing safeguard. It does not replace checking the current plan information before purchasing or building. The summary header below shows the lock control used to change the plan's editing state.

## Use a deliberate review point

Use the open or closed padlock in the plan summary header to identify the current editing state and change it when you have plan edit permission.

Lock a plan after the person responsible for product setup has reviewed the product quantities, ingredient amounts, labor method, selling prices, and date range. For example, lock a weekend market plan after the buying review so an accidental quantity edit does not change the ingredient requirements before purchasing.

## Distinguish a lock from permission

An unlocked plan can be edited only by a member with permission to edit that plan. That member can use the active lock control to lock or unlock it. A locked plan has the same member permission, but its editing controls are unavailable until that member unlocks the plan.

A member without plan edit permission sees a disabled lock control and cannot unlock the plan or make changes, whether the plan is locked or unlocked. The lock does not grant or remove a member's access. Unlock the plan when you intend to change it. If the change affects ingredients or quantities, review **Order**. If it changes production information, review **Build**. Lock the plan again when those intended changes are complete.
