# Create a retail plan

1. On **Plans**, select **New Plan**.
2. Enter a **Plan Name** that identifies the collection or selling period.
3. Choose a complete **Date Range**. The range should cover the dates when the plan is being prepared and sold.
4. Optionally choose a **Template Name** when its setup is a useful starting point.
5. Select **Create**.

The new plan opens on the [Retail Plan Page](/reference/retail-plan-page.md). Start with **Details** for shared plan information, then add the products and production information on **Recipes**.

## Choose the date range

Use a range that represents the retail period, rather than only the first day you begin preparing products. A plan that runs from Monday through Sunday can keep its products together for that full week. The date range also determines whether the plan is active for Retail Quick Reference on a particular day.

The date picker includes shortcuts such as **Next Week** and **Next Month**. These are starting points. Confirm both dates before creating the plan, especially when a collection spans a holiday, market, or month boundary.

## Start from a template

Choose a template only when its product setup is genuinely reusable. The template can save setup time, but it can also bring forward product quantities, ingredients, labor, and prices that need to change for the current plan. After creation, open **Recipes** and review those values before preparing an order.
