# Create a plan template from a retail plan

Create a plan template when an existing retail plan has a product setup you expect to reuse. A template is a starting point for future plans, not another active selling period.

1. Find the source plan on **Plans**.
2. Open its row action menu and select **Create Template From Plan**.
3. Enter a **Template Name** and select **Create**.

The new template is managed in Retail Library under **Plan Templates**. Open [Manage plan templates](/reference/retail-library/plan-templates/manage-plan-templates.md) to find it and make later changes. Review its products, quantities, and pricing assumptions before using it for another period. Creating a template requires permission to edit the source plan.

## Choose a reusable source

Use a plan that already has the product structure you want to repeat. For example, a weekly counter collection with a vase product, a wrapped bouquet, and a seasonal centerpiece can become a useful template after its product names, ingredients, labor, and prices have been reviewed.

The template retains its own setup after creation. It does not stay connected to the source plan, and later changes to the plan do not automatically update the template. Likewise, a plan created from the template should be reviewed as its own record.
