# Delete an event

Delete an event only when the record should be removed from the Events collection and you have permission to edit it. Deletion is different from changing an event to **Cancelled**, **Lost**, or **Archived**. Those statuses preserve a record for later reference.

## Review the event before deletion

On the **Events** page, open the action menu for the event and select **Delete Event**. Review the confirmation dialog carefully.

The **Delete Event** dialog names the event that will be removed and provides the destructive confirmation control.

Select **Cancel** when the event should remain. Select **Delete** only when the named event is the record you intend to remove.

## Confirm deletion

After you select **Delete**, the dialog closes and the event is removed from the collection. Select **Cancel** to close the dialog and leave the event in the collection.

Deletion is not a status change and should not be used to record that an event was cancelled or lost. It also does not create an archive that can be used as a historical event record.
