# Create an event from a template

Choose an event template when you want to start with a saved event setup. You can select it while creating an event from the [Events page](/reference/events.md), or start from **Event Templates**.

## Choose the template

1. On **Events**, select **New Event**.
2. Enter the **Event Name**.
3. Select the saved template in **Template Name (Optional)**.
4. Select the **Event Date**.

Use the template as a starting point, not as a replacement for reviewing the new event. The event has its own name, date, clients, and other record information. Editing the source template later does not automatically update this event.

This example uses Summer Garden Event Template to create a new event with its own name and date.

Alternatively, open **Event Templates**, find the saved template, and select **Create Event From Template** in its **Actions** column. Enter the new event's name and date in that creation dialog.

## Open the new event

Select **Create** in the dialog. The dialog closes and the new [Event Page](/reference/event-page.md) opens with the template's starting setup. The source template remains available for another event.

If the event already exists and the template was not known at creation time, use **Details > Event Actions** instead. That action deliberately updates selected sections of the existing event.
