# Create an event template

Create an event template when several future events should start with the same planning structure. Open **Event Templates** and select **New Template**.

The dialog asks for a reusable name and can optionally start from another event template. In this example, the template name is filled in and an existing template is selected as the starting point.

## Name the template

Enter a descriptive value in **Template Name**. Use a name that tells your team what the setup is intended to cover, such as a wedding planning structure or a recurring service format. The name identifies the reusable setup in the library and in later template selectors.

## Start blank or from another template

Use **From Template (Optional)** to choose an existing event template when the new setup should begin with its content. Leave it empty when you want to build the setup from the editor's controls.

Starting from another template gives you a separate template to revise. You can change the new template without changing the source template.

## Open the editor

Select **Create**. The new Event Template editor opens with the template name and the **TEMPLATE** marker in its summary. Use the editor to add or revise the reusable Details, Tasks, Recipes, Taxes, Discounts, & Fees, and Proposal content.

The template does not need a client, event date, or payment record. Add only the setup that should be a useful starting point for a future event, then review the copied result on the new event.

See [Event Template editor](/reference/event-templates/editor.md) for the available tabs and their template-specific boundaries.
