# Configure event pricing defaults

Use the Markups tab to define the assumptions FlowerBuddy uses for suggested prices and profit costs in new events. The controls are grouped by the kind of cost or adjustment they represent. Your choices should reflect your own pricing model. They are not required florist rates.

The Markups tab groups the defaults by design fee, materials, labor, and overhead. The visible values in this example are workspace settings, not recommended rates.

## Design Fee

**Design Fee (%)** is an optional pricing increase proportional to the combined flower, hard-good, and direct labor costs in an arrangement. It can increase the arrangement's profit margin. It is not another labor or overhead cost, and its percentage is not a target margin or a guaranteed percentage-point increase in margin.

## Flower and hard-good multipliers

These controls set how FlowerBuddy turns underlying costs into suggested prices for common item types:

* **Flower Cost** applies to flowers.
* **Hard Good Rental** applies to hard goods that are rented.
* **Hard Good Sale** applies to hard goods that are sold.

Keep rental and sale assumptions separate when your pricing treats those item types differently.

## Labor

The Labor group supports hourly and percentage-based pricing assumptions:

* **In Studio Labor Hourly Rate** is the in-studio direct labor cost per hour. **In Studio Labor Multiplier** applies to that cost when FlowerBuddy derives the selling-price contribution.
* **On Site Labor Hourly Rate** is the on-site direct labor cost per hour. **On Site Labor Multiplier** applies to that cost when FlowerBuddy derives the selling-price contribution.
* **Default Labor Percent** provides the percentage-based labor assumption.
* **Labor Multiplier (Percent Based)** controls the multiplier used with percentage-based labor.

For time-based labor, the hourly cost and estimated minutes determine the labor cost. Percentage-based labor uses the flower and hard-good selling amounts before labor markup. The percentage represents labor's share of the combined materials and labor amount, not simply that percentage of the materials subtotal.

For example, with a $100 flower and hard-good amount and a 20% labor setting, the calculated labor cost is $25: $25 is 20% of the combined $125. **Labor Multiplier (Percent Based)** then controls the labor contribution to the suggested selling price. These are example values, not recommended rates.

## Overhead and fees

The Overhead group separates the assumptions that contribute to indirect or owner costs:

* **Indirect Labor Percent** accounts for labor that is not assigned as direct event labor.
* **Owner Labor Percent** accounts for owner labor in the pricing model.
* **Facilities Overhead Percent** accounts for facilities costs.
* **General Overhead Percent** accounts for other general overhead.
* **Account For FlowerBuddy Fee** includes the FlowerBuddy fee in suggested-price calculations when enabled.
* **Account For Payment Processing Fee** includes payment processing costs in suggested-price calculations when enabled.

These switches help the suggested selling price account for those fees. They do not turn the actual fees on or off, determine whether a fee is recorded in event profit, charge a client, set an application fee, or change the payment processor connection.

## Suggested-price rounding

**Round Suggested Prices** offers **Do Not Round**, **Nearest Dollar**, **Nearest 5 Dollars**, and **Nearest 10 Dollars**. The rounding choices round the suggested selling price up to the selected increment. For example, a $24.20 suggestion becomes $25 with **Nearest 5 Dollars**. This does not change the underlying buying costs.

## Apply the defaults

1. Open **Event Settings** and select **Markups**.
2. Change the text inputs by their labels, including **Design Fee (%)**, **Flower Cost**, the hard-good multipliers, the labor rates and multipliers, and the overhead percentages.
3. Turn on **Account For FlowerBuddy Fee** to include the FlowerBuddy fee in suggested prices, and turn on **Account For Payment Processing Fee** to include payment processing in suggested prices. Leave either switch off when that cost should not be included in the suggestion.
4. Select a value in **Round Suggested Prices**.

There is no Save button on this tab. Values save as you change the fields, switches, or rounding choice. Confirm the new value remains visible before leaving the page. These values are copied into events created without an event template. Updating the defaults does not change pricing assumptions in existing events. To change an existing event, open its [pricing and settings controls](/reference/event-page/details/configure-event-pricing-and-settings.md) instead.
