# Event cost, price, and profit

The summary above an event's tabs lets you compare what you expect to spend with what you plan to charge. These figures depend on the recipes, other costs, taxes, discounts, and pricing settings entered for the event.

The event summary places **Cost**, **Price**, **Est. Profit**, the main event status, and the lock state above the tabs.

## Read the three figures

* **Cost** is the estimated cost of providing the event. It can include flowers, hard goods, labor, overhead, other costs, waste, taxes, and applicable fees.
* **Price** is the event's selling price, including its discounts and taxes. Application fees are included when they are enabled.
* **Est. Profit** compares price with the included costs. Accurate ingredient, labor, and overhead estimates make this figure more useful.

For example, a missing flower cost can make the profit estimate look higher than it should. Review the recipe's buying-price information before relying on that estimate.

## Total breakdowns

On a computer, place your pointer over **Cost**, **Price**, or **Est. Profit** in the summary to see a breakdown. The profit breakdown also shows the other format: a money amount when the summary shows a percentage, or a percentage when it shows an amount.

Change the underlying values on [Recipes](/reference/event-page/recipes.md) or [Taxes, Discounts, & Fees](/reference/event-page/taxes-discounts-fees.md), rather than trying to type into the summary. Cost and profit information may be hidden by your workspace permissions or **Client View**.
