# Review and sync event revenue recognition

**Journal entry preview** shows the QuickBooks posting FlowerBuddy can create to recognize an event's revenue. Revenue recognition in this use case is available for an event with the required status and accounting setup. It is part of the advanced QuickBooks accrual-accounting use case.

## Resolve readiness issues

Before syncing, review the warnings above the preview. The event may need:

* A FlowerBuddy client selected under **Customer Attribution**.
* A QuickBooks customer linked to that client.
* A reporting account assigned to every billable event line item.
* At least one received payment synced as deferred revenue or marked as already synced after checking its existing QuickBooks records.
* Reporting accounts connected to the required QuickBooks accounts.
* An event status of **Booked** or **Completed**.
* An event date of today or earlier. Revenue recognition is unavailable before the event date.

FlowerBuddy keeps **Sync to QuickBooks** unavailable while the preview is not ready. Resolve each warning as follows, then allow the preview to refresh:

* If no client is selected, choose one in **Customer Attribution**.
* If the client is not linked, select **Set QBO customer** and link the correct QuickBooks customer.
* If a line is unmapped, open its **Reporting account** menu in **Line item mapping** and choose the category that should post to QuickBooks.
* If a paid receipt needs review, open it under **Cash receipts / deferred revenue** and select **Sync to QuickBooks** or **Mark already synced**.
* If a cash receipt row shows **Open**, select it to go to **Accounting > Accounts** and complete [Deferred Revenue Setup](/reference/accounting/accounts/configure-deferred-revenue.md).
* If the status is not ready, check whether the event should be **Booked** or **Completed**. Update the status only when it reflects the event's actual progress.
* If the event date is in the future, return on or after that date. Correct an incorrect date in **Details** rather than changing a correct date to bypass the restriction.

The preview is ready when the warnings are gone and **Sync to QuickBooks** is available. An error such as **Unable to load journal entry preview.** or **Unable to sync revenue recognition to QuickBooks.** means FlowerBuddy could not complete that request; review the refreshed warning before changing values.

## Review the posting

When lines are available, review:

* **Posting**, which identifies a debit or credit.
* **QuickBooks account**, the destination account.
* **Description**, which explains the amount.
* **Debit** and **Credit**, the amounts on each side.

If the event has discounts, review the **Discounts** list above the posting table. Compare the total debit with the total credit and compare the lines with the event price, mapped items, discounts, and synced cash receipts.

## Sync the journal entry

1. When the preview is ready, select **Sync to QuickBooks**.
2. In **Sync Journal Entry?**, compare the displayed debit and credit totals again.
3. Select **Sync Journal Entry** to confirm.

FlowerBuddy displays **Synced to QuickBooks** with a **Journal Entry** link after a successful sync. The event's customer attribution and line-item mappings become read-only so the saved setup remains aligned with the posted entry.

{% hint style="warning" %}
Syncing creates a QuickBooks journal entry. Confirm the connected company, customer, accounts, receipts, discounts, and balanced totals before selecting **Sync Journal Entry**.
