# Manage tax profiles

A tax profile is one reusable tax definition. It can describe either a percentage or a fixed amount. It is not a payment to a tax authority and it does not replace your accounting process.

## Create a tax profile

1. From **Core Data**, open **Tax Profiles** and select **Add Tax Profile**.
2. Enter a recognizable **Name**.
3. Choose **Percent** or **Amount** in **Tax Type**, then enter the value.
4. Select **Add** to make the profile available in event tax selections.

For example, use a percentage when the tax is calculated from a taxable amount, and an amount when the reusable tax is a fixed charge. Choose a name your team can recognize later, especially when several local taxes apply to the same event.

## Change a profile carefully

Select the edit icon to change the name, **Tax Type**, or value, then select **Update**. FlowerBuddy warns that an update affects existing events in the current calendar year and future years. Review the warning and the profile's use before saving. The calculated tax can change, but a contract price remains unchanged. To change a contracted tax price, work from the event and create an amendment rather than trying to change the contract through Core Data.

## Delete a profile only when it is no longer reusable

Select the delete icon only after reviewing the profile and its event use. Deleting removes the reusable profile. Existing event tax rows are separate records, so do not assume deletion removes an already applied tax from an event. If the profile is still needed for future work, change it only after understanding the event consequence described in the warning.

Some eligible workspaces show a **FlowerBuddy category** field for a QuickBooks reporting-account mapping. That field is part of the advanced [Accounting](/reference/accounting.md) setup and is not required to create a tax profile.
