# Manage product codes

Product Codes are internal identifiers assigned in retail product details. The **Product Codes** tab maintains codes that are already in use. It does not create a product or assign the first code to a product.

## Find and rename a code

1. From **Core Data**, open **Product Codes**.
2. Use the search field to find a code, then review **Product Count** to see how many products use it.
3. Select the edit icon, change the code, and save.

The new code appears on every product that uses it. Check the count and confirm that the replacement remains meaningful for all of those products before saving. For example, correct a typing error in a shared code, but do not use a rename to make one product's code different from the rest.

The editor warns that saving changes the code for every product that uses it.

## Merge or delete codes

To combine duplicates, select two or more codes and choose **Merge**. In **Merge Product Codes**, choose the code to keep, then confirm. FlowerBuddy replaces the other selected codes everywhere with the retained code. Use this only when the selected codes identify the same product grouping.

Select the delete icon to remove a code from products. Deletion cannot be undone. Review **Product Count** first because the action clears the code from every associated product rather than deleting those products.

## Assign the first code

Assign a Product Code from the **Product Code** field in a retail product's details. See [Manage product details](/reference/retail-plan-page/recipes/manage-product-details.md) for that product-level action. Return to this tab when a shared code needs maintenance. Product Codes are available only in workspaces where product details are enabled.
